Healthy Kid-Friendly Cupcakes!
Keeping our students healthy is one of or main priorities here at LBA. We provide balanced, nutritious meals and snacks, and encourage our students to make healthy choices and to try new foods. In addition, we serve lots of protein, whole grains, and no fried foods. While a wholesome diet is of great importance to us, we all want to enjoy a cheat day every now and then. Last month, we decided a day for cake would be a welcome treat. With boxes and boxes of cake mix, kitchen tools, and cake ingredients gathered, the students were reading to get baking. Step by step, their teachers took the lead, but everyone was involved in the baking festivities. From lining cupcake pans to mixing the batter, the students helped to move the process along. Some teachers even took on the challenge of creating rainbow cupcakes. They separated their large amount of batter into different bowls, and used food coloring to create varying colors of batter. The oohs and aahs coming form the students made their fascination evident. After trays and trays of cupcake pans were filled to the brim with batter, it was finally time for them to transform into sweet, fluffy bites of cupcakey goodness under the fiery heat of the oven. The sweet smell of batter flooded the building as the students waited for the baking time to run out. By the time afternoon snack rolled around, the cupcakes were cool and ready to be frosted and decorated. Then the moment the students had been waiting for…It was time to get them into their bellies at last! Everyone enjoyed making the cupcakes and had an even better time eating them.
